Cancer Connection is a grass-roots, nonprofit organization that assists Southeast Alaskans living with cancer, their families, and support systems. Cancer Connection sponsors education programs and awareness events with the intent of prevention and early detection of cancer.

Cancer Connection Misson

To bring together health and wellness resources for people residing in Southeast Alaska, thereby empowering them to make sound decisions and choices with the goal of prolonging their quality of life whether in time of crisis or fulfillment.

Cancer Connection Vision

To empower Alaskans through:

Support connecting patients and their families to individuals and groups.

Awareness through public advocacy and community-sponsored cancer and wellness-related events.

Education via seminars, forums, workshops, guest speakers, and public speaking.

Resources serving as a clearinghouse for educational materials and other assistance.

  • Sheryl Weinberg

    PRESIDENT

    In June 2021 I retired as Executive Director of SERRC- Alaska’s Educational Resource Center, after serving as an educator for 46 years.

    Previously I have been a member of numerous boards including Congregation Sukkat Shalom, chairing the building committee that resulted in opening the first synagogue in SE Alaska; Let Every Woman Know – Alaska; United Way of SE AK; the Executive Council of the Association of Education Service Agencies; and the Council for Exceptional Children. I serve as a current member of the Foundation Board of the Association of Education Service Agencies.

    I am a cancer survivor, Master Gardener, and aspiring fiber artist. With an educator and servant heart, I hope to help advance the mission of Cancer Connection in whatever way I can to ensure long-term organizational viability.

  • Eileen Hosey

    VICE PRESIDENT

    I am currently employed as a Case Manager @ S.E. Senior Services – c/o Catholic Community Services.

    My volunteer experience includes serving on the Board of Directors for the following organizations:

    Glory Hole (2009-present),
    Juneau Commission on Aging, and Community Resource Network (2014-present).

    I am impressed with the degree of outreach, support, and assistance given to cancer patients and their families that Cancer Connection gives. My many years of experience working on various Boards will help me be a contributing member of this organization. I enjoy working with a group of committed individuals with common goals.

  • Julie Hamilton

    TREASURER

    I am currently employed as the Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Alaska. I have over 5 years as a Professor of Accounting and 20+ years as CPA in public, private, & government accounting.

    My volunteer experience includes work with Rotary, Ikiriwa School (African School), and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.

    I believe in the mission of Cancer Connection and would like to help with the good work it does in our community.

  • Emily Ricci

    BOARD MEMBER

    I am currently employed as a health care policy consultant. My previous background includes work with the State of Alaska, focusing on the various aspects of health care including Medicaid the State Employee and Retiree Health Plan.

    My volunteer experience includes work in Sri Lanka following the 2004 tsunami, the American Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina, and as a Rural Community Health volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Benin, West Africa. In Juneau, I have been a Board Member of the Glory Hole and my neighborhood association.

    As a cancer Survivor, I understand the importance of Cancer Connection and have relied on their services to support me through my diagnosis and treatment. I am excited at the opportunity to help the organization that I relied on and to support others in our community.

  • Molly McCormick

    BOARD MEMBER

    I grew up in Douglas and attended school through the Juneau School District. My husband, Arnold Liebelt, and I have 3 adult children that graduated from the Juneau School District. We are very proud of them and their accomplishments: Masters of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical line person and Tree Trimmer (both in IBEW). Our three young adults are my most pride and joy in my life, they bring me happiness.

    I have worked in the Juneau School District since 1992, and at Bartlett Regional Hospital since 2017.

    I’m a breast cancer survivor since November 2019 and Living Life!

  • Tish Griffin Satre

    BOARD MEMBER

    My volunteer experience includes past President for Cancer Connection, 2006 – 2010, Vice President 1998 – 2006, and a member of the Cancer Connection Board since 1997. I retired in 2010 to the Seattle area and manage the Seattle apt.

    I have been with Cancer Connection almost from inception. I am a three-cancer survivor, advocate for survivors, and a summer charter boat operator in Juneau.

  • Ruth Johnson

    BOARD MEMBER

    I am currently retired after a long stint as the Chief Financial Officer for Wildflower Court.

    My volunteer experience includes working with the Swim Team, Cancer Connection, and numerous other Boards.

    My accounting knowledge & expertise is put to good use. I serve as Treasurer for Cancer Connection, as well as coordinating/organizing the “BEAT the ODDS” annual event – which is a major fundraiser for Cancer Connection.

  • Jo Gladden

    BOARD MEMBER

    I am currently working for One10 Marketing, and have spent my entire career (44 years and counting) with the same company! I have truly enjoyed the hospitality industry and more specifically working on meetings and events as part of an on-site logistics team.

    I moved to Juneau in 1996. I am a breast cancer survivor (2011). My goal on the board to to help others in our community with their cancer journey ~through our community-sponsored and wellness-related events.

    I love spending time with my family, grandkids, and the Juneau community….feeling so fortunate for all the outdoor activities we can enjoy here.
