Community Health Forum
Join us for our 2024 Community Health Forum at Centennial Hall! Enjoy a nutritious lunch catered by Breeze In, learn from health exhibits, and listen to our keynote speaker, Dr. Gary Ferguson, talk about As We Heal Ourselves: A Conversation On Climate Change, Cancer, and Hope. Objectives of Dr. Ferguson’s talk are to:
(1) Understand that our lives and the health of the planet are interconnected;
(2) Understand that as we align ourselves with Nature, we not only heal ourselves but affect generations; and
(3) Understand practical ways to address chronic disease through an anti-inflammatory lifestyle that also promotes health on the planet.
Dr. Gary Ferguson serves as the Director of Integrative Medicine for the Tulalip Health System in Washington State. He also is a Research Assistant Professor at Washington State University’s Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) located in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. As a Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Ferguson has a passion for wellness-based, culturally-connected approaches to achieving community health. He is Unangax̂ (Aleut), enrolled in the Qagan Tayagungin Tribe and is originally from the Shumagin Islands community of Sand Point, Alaska. Dr. Ferguson’s past positions include providing clinical services to his home region at Eastern Aleutian Tribes, serving at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium as Wellness & Prevention Director and Senior Director of Community Health Services and as Chief Executive Officer at the Rural Alaska Community Action Program. Dr. Ferguson is Director of Integrative Medicine for the Tulalip Health System in Washington State.

Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer 2024
For the second year in a row, the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (CARES) has partnered with Treadwell Arena for a fundraising effort to support CARES Foundation’s cancer research and Juneau’s Cancer Connection, a grassroots non-profit organization working to assist Alaskans living with cancer. From September 14-15, Treadwell Arena invites the community to take part in the following events:
• Youth Co-Ed 3v3 Hockey
Saturday, September 14 12:30 – 6 p.m.
Sunday, September 15 9:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
• Remembrance Walk (Presented by the Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation and Southeast Radiation Oncology)
Saturday, September 14 12 p.m.
• Open Skate
Sunday, September 15 1 – 2:30 p.m.
All events, including the Remembrance Walk start and finish, will take place at Treadwell Arena.
Registration is required. To register and see full event details, visit fundraise.scottcares.org/juneau. Walk-up registration is available for some events, but please be aware that youth 3v3 hockey teams must register by Tuesday, September 10.
All registration fees go to fundraising for CARES’ national cancer research as well as Cancer Connection’s travel assistance program, providing financial grants for expenses related to cancer care services outside Southeast Alaska.

Beat The Odds: A Race Against Cancer
5K run and 2-mile walk at Kax̱dig̱oowu Héen School (Riverbend Elementary) to support Southeast Alaskans who are battling cancer. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and includes commemorative t-shirts, a grand prize drawing, refreshments, door prizes, and an auction. Saturday, August 17, 2024.

National Cancer Survivor Day
join us at Marine Park for a walk to the Whale park for music, celebration, and a barbecue. This is an annual international event to honor those who are living with a history of cancer, celebrate their strength and courage, and raise awareness.
KIKKAN Film with Q&A Fundraiser
Join us for a screening of the Kikkan Documentary, followed by a Kikkan Q&A session! Proceeds benefit Cancer Connection.
